NANKA DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS 2009 - 2010

Mission Statement
To instill the fundamentals of judo through kata development enabling the students to progress to their desired goals and beyond. 
Charter
·Provide kata training and certification program
·Facilitate kata training programs
·Develop kata judges and a score keeping system
·Conduct kata competition
·Coordinate kata training and competition with the Tournament and Development Committees
·Develop written operating policies and procedures as required for kata certification and competition
·Provide the Secretarial Committee with copies of minutes, policies/procedures, schedules and training material
·Provide the Finance Committee with budget forecasts of revenue and expenses, and other financial data
Objectives
·Increase overall participation of kata within Nanka
·Start Nanka Kata Championship events
·Develop National and International kata competitors in all levels
·Junior
·Intermediate

·Provide alternative competition avenue for those who are not competitive in shiai but still want to compete
·Change the perception of kata as “going through the movements” or “I need it for promotion” to learning and teaching tool to advance judo technical skills

Kata Classes and Open Workout

Southern California Judo Kata Classes are available for those who wish to learn kata. The classes are offered on a fee basis and scheduled for first and third Saturdays of the month from 9 A.M. to noon. However, due to ever changing event conflicts, schedule changes are emailed out to the Kata contact distribution list. If you wish to be added to the distribution list, please send your email address to Schmidt2@hotmail.com. 
Open Kata Workout sessions are for those who want to practice kata, acquire kata certification for promotions, prepare for kata competition or getting USJI / USJF Kata Judging certifications.

Fees: Individual - $75.00 per 3 month open-workout series or $20.00 per one open-workout session.  You can also pay $250.00 for an annual membership.   Partners (2 people) - $100.00 per 3 month open-workout series or $30.00 per one open-workout session.  You can also pay $300.00 for an annual membership.
Eligibility: Current USJI, USJF or USJA registered members   (Must show valid proof of membership)

Curriculums:  For those who need certifications for promotion requirement or Judging, just sign up for a certification curriculum listed below:
·Nage no Kata - 6 days, ·Katame no Kata - 6 days, Ju no Kata - 8 days, · Goshinjitsu - 8 days,  Kime no Kata - 8 days,  Koshiki no Kata - 8 days,  Itsutsu no Kata - 2 days, ·Referee Class - 2 days (This is for promotion requirements only)

Curriculum Fees: Individual - $90.00 per Kata except Itsutsu no Kata @ $40.00
Partners (2 people) - $120.00 per Kata except Itsutsu no Kata Class @ $60.00
Referee Class - $40.00 per person plus $20.00 processing fee for Nanka certificate
You have up to 6 month to complete each 6 or 8 day curriculum
(Curriculums are not required to be completed in consecutive lessons; however it is highly recommended to do so)
Testing Fee:  Testing Fee is included in the price of the curriculums.  There is an additional $20.00 processing fee for Nanka certificate (promotion requirement) or $30.00 processing fee for “B” level certificate (judging)
Once your session starts, all fees are non-refundable

Nanka Kata Fundig Criteria 2009- 2010  (Posted April 19, 2010)
There are several kata events that Nanka members are eligible to receive Kata Development Funding for placing in the medals.  The awards are based on the highest medal earned in the following amounts:

Gold medal - $100 for each team member, Silver medal - $50 for each team member and Bronze medal - $25 for each team member.

To avoid any confusion, Kata Development Funding will be given out to the following criteria:
If a team enters and medals in 3 divisions they would only get paid for (1) one highest medal.  For example a teams in 3 divisions wins (2) two gold and (1) one bronze medal,  they would be eligible for a maximum funding of $100 for each team member.  To be eligible competitors must be in good standing with Nanka Yudanshakai (minumum 3 months before the event).

Events eligible for funding are:
  • May 1-2 (Sat/Sun) – USA Senior Nationals in Myrtle Beach SC
  • July 4-5 (Sat/Sun) – 2010 United States Junior National Championships in Irvine CA
  • TBD - USA Judo Open
  • TBD - Fukuda Sensei Annual International Kata Tournament, San Jose CA
