12/23/05. Next week, we will begin sending out letters to 100 elementary and middle schools offering to do judo demonstrations. We will do this again in March. In addition, we will be submitting proposals to perform judo demonstrations at Disneyland, the L.A. County Fair, community center festivals, Japan Expo, Nikkei Week, Orange Show and the half-time of WNBA games, among other venues.
WE NEED A DEMONSTRATION TEAM!
Do you have players from age 5- 25 at your club who would be willing to perform demonstrations? Would you be willing to serve as an announcer? Would you be willing to coach a demonstration team?
Requirements are as follows:
1. Must be willing to perform demonstrations on a stage in front of 100 or more spectators.
2. Must be willing to learn a demonstration routine which includes,
For the youngest children, falling, synchronized rolling falls, cartwheels, round-offs, uchi-komi and two throws (drop seoi and o uchi gari)
For the older children - all of the above, plus counters, combinations, one set of nage no kata, turnovers and a choke
For high school students and adults - all of the above, plus an armbar and an improvised routine with a partner.
3. Must be willing to perform in demonstration team uniform (Nanka jacket, judo gi with Nanka patch). At the instructor's discretion, team member are welcome to have their club patch or name embroidered on their jacket and uniform as well.
For any of your club members who are outgoing, who could benefit from more experience performing in front of the public, or who just want to promote judo, this is a great opportunity.
